Privacy
tiredpilots.ca is a static reference site. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no comment system, and no forms. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not sell or share personal information. This statement describes the little that is collected and by whom.
It is written with Canadian privacy law in mind — principally the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the guidance of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. It is a plain-language description, not legal advice.
What this site collects
Analytics
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint your device, and does not track you across other websites. It records aggregate, non-identifying measurements — page views, referring sites, country, browser and device type. Cloudflare processes this data on the site’s behalf; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
“Ask a question” search
The site has two search modes:
- Keyword search runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
- Ask a question (meaning-based) search sends only the text of your query to Cohere, a Canadian artificial-intelligence company, to compute a numeric “meaning” vector used to rank pages. It does not send your identity, your IP address, or anything else. Per Cohere’s API terms, text sent to its API is not used to train its models. The query text is briefly cached at Cloudflare’s edge — keyed by the query itself, not by you — for up to 24 hours.
“Suggest a correction” links
These open your own email program with a message pre-filled. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it. If you email a correction, that message and your email address are received by the site operator and kept only as long as needed to act on it.
Your browser’s local storage
One value is stored in your browser (tp-disclaimer-ack-v1) so the disclaimer
bar does not reappear after you dismiss it. It stays on your device and is never
transmitted.
Server logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare keeps standard, short-lived request logs (such as IP address, timestamp and URL requested) for security and reliability. The site operator does not use these to identify or profile visitors.
Who else is involved
| Service | Role | What it sees | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, CDN, analytics, edge functions | Requests to the site; aggregate analytics | Global edge network |
| Cohere | “Ask a question” search embeddings | The text of a meaning-based search query only | Cohere API |
| GitHub | Hosts the site’s open-source code and edit history | Nothing about site visitors | United States |
Children
The site is a general-audience professional reference. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to ask an organisation what personal information it holds about you and to request that it be corrected. Because this site holds essentially no personal information about visitors, there is little to request — but you may contact us at [email protected] with any question.
If you are not satisfied with the response, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — priv.gc.ca.
