tiredpilots.ca is an educational aid. It is a plain-language guide to help you find and understand the flight-crew fatigue rules — it is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for:

  • the Canadian Aviation Regulations (SOR/96-433) as published on the Justice Laws website,
  • Advisory Circular 700-047 and other Transport Canada guidance, or
  • your company Operations Manual, which may impose stricter limits.

It can contain errors, and the regulations can change. Always verify against the current CARs and your Operations Manual before you rely on anything here.

How it’s sourced

  • Each substantive statement cites the CARs section it comes from, and, where interpretation matters, the relevant part of Advisory Circular 700-047.
  • Regulation wording is reproduced verbatim in the “Regulation text” expander on each rule page, and defined terms are reproduced verbatim in the glossary, from the Justice Laws website.
  • Every page shows the date it was last reviewed against the regulations, and the date the regulation text was retrieved.
  • Where the AC provides guidance that goes beyond the wording of the CARs, that is flagged as guidance, not a rule, and attributed to the AC.
